How To Lose The Pregnancy Weight: What Worked For Me

If you are reading this, and you just gave birth.. you must be looking down at your belly and ย … thinking “UGH! This will never go away! Why do I still look pregnant?!”

I totally feel you! DO NOT WORRY- THIS IS NORMAL.

Obviously, you had a little baby growing in there for 9 months- it will take a few weeks before it actually shrinks back. So don’t judge yourself. Breatheeee.

The solution to the problem at hand: a CORSET/BINDER. I used the ones by WINK. It never got itchy and I found it so convenient to use. You can wear it under your clothes without feeling bulky too.

I know you might feel uncomfortable for the first few hours BUT ย you gotta SUCK IT IN. No pain, no gain. This was one thing my mom taught me eversince the birth of my first child and it was something i’m glad I did.

ย Here’s how and when to use it…A few hours after giving birth, make sure to put it on, and keep it on even when you sleep. (YES, trust me.) I only used to take it off before a shower. Own about 2-3 pairs so that you always have one to use when the other is being washed. (Secretly though, well obviously not a secret anymore- since I was pretty much stuck at home the first few weeks, i used it twice, or sometimes thrice in a row haha! I mean who cares right!) I mean after a bath, just wear it again. It’s totally fine.

I wore the corset for about 2 months every single day.. ’till eventually I was on the last hook! And that was the best feeling. EVER.

ย Since I am breastfeeding, going on a diet is impossible. I am always hungry! So personally this wasn’t even something I considered. So that would be Step 2 for me- BREASTFEEDING. You actually burn 600-800 calories a day when you do. Did you know that? That explains all those crazy cravings. Like Chocolateeee!

Step 3- for normal deliveries (not to sure about the protocol for C sections), usually you get a go signal from your doctor to work out after you have stopped bleeding. In my case it was after about 6-7 weeks.

HOWEVER working out isn’t part of my “how to’s” because as you may or may not know- i am definitely not a fan of working out.. i know, i know.. one of them lazy ones… but comeee on… I’d rather relax at home. (Heehee) And I’m sure many of you can relate! I mean there are so many things to do right? Breastfeed, pump, burp, put your baby to sleep, attend to your other children, errands… and you know, try to look human again! Excuses, excuses Haha… no but really… back to step 3, as soon as you get a “go” from your doctor to work out- that also means that you can start going for treatments! Woohoo! And that meant MARIE FRANCE for me!

I first discovered Marie France 12 years ago, I saw it on a newspaper ad so I called up and made an appointment.. It was a free consultation anyway right? And that time, since I only gained 30 pounds (and I was only 19)- I lost everything so quickly- but that wasn’t my main concern- it was the firming and toning. I wanted to avoid sagging skin.. so that’s what they focused on. I even liked my body better after I had the baby! It was awesome.

4 years after, I had a second child- but this time I gained nearly over 50 pounds! Crazy. So a few months after, I made sure to make another appointment with Marie France. I recall doing the Vela shape – that’s an old treatment they no longer have- it’s been developed and improved further. Oh and I did those cold wraps. I didn’t care how much I had to spend- I charged it on my credit card and said that it was worth it! Haha.

8 years down the road, here I am again! But this time, I am now officially part of the family.. not just as an endorser but a true believer and fan of the company and its services! I was so happy to accept this offer because I can proudly say that It’s been tried and tested- It worked for me for over a decade!

The trick here is to show up for your treatments.. the first month is crucial coz you really need to go at least twice a week to see the results faster. Besides each session takes only about 30mins to an hour.

If you’re curious about what a treatment is like– first of all they aren’t painful- it’s like a hard, heated machine massage– and it kind of grabs on to your skin .. well this is the Legacy treatment i’ve been doing lately.. the Legacy is like THE treatment to do now. It’s a 4 in one concentrated treatment which burns fat, tones and firms, removes/prevents cellulite too! And i’m telling you- no matter how much you work out cellulite never goes away but with this one it really disappears i’m not kidding. I really was starting to see them when I was pregnant.. i mean my thighs were touching na! But I’m proud to say that now, they are inches apart! Woohoo! Marie France, thank you!!!

And step number 4- CARRY your baby.


ย ย ย From 8 pounds, to 10,12 and now 16 phew! For hours!!! This is no joke- I have Maxen to thank for my toned arms! Haha. And core- ย I swing him side to side while squatting till my arms ache… it really works. That’s my only work out but it’s major. Seriouslyyyy. You really see the effects (hahaha!)

Step 5! Don’t forget the OIL & LOTION! Although topical- they really work. Don’t stop using them even after you’ve given birth.. it’s just as crucial. Best to prevent, than to wait until it’s too late. Maxen is almost 5 months old and I still use these products twice a day.

(plus the Clarins Tonic oil, which i just finished..)ย 

Lastly, make sure you pay a visit to a chiropractor to realign you and snap your hips back into place! It does wonders!!!

I suggest going to Intercare.

And that’s about it.. that’s really all I’ve been doing. From gaining nearly 60 pounds.. Remember this?

Just days before giving birth! Totally ready to pop!

ย …Then sort of getting stuck with all of 25 more pounds on my 2nd month.. i’m now down to 115 pounds! 3 pounds under my pre-pregnancy weight.. sooo happy!

Remember, happy mommy, happy kids, happy husband. That’s how it goes.

But you gotta also remember that it’s not just about the weight-you must have a happy and pleasant disposition, you gotta eat healthy and have a balanced diet too- i mean have carbs, protein, greens, and all that. You don’t wanna look skinny, but unhealthy and sad. No, no, no.

And also, know your body type– understand what works for you and what doesn’t. Because we all have different bodies- listen to your body and go along with it.

But these are my tips, tried and tested! ๐Ÿ™‚ Let me know how it goes!!! ย Let’s do this momma’s!

    1. Ohhh @karen you need to start using them as early as now!!! The mustela firming gel you can get at mustela booths at either Greenbelt or Shangrila. You must start using the Clarins Tonic Oil already! You can use that now and even after.. the Marula oil is not recommended while pregnant ๐Ÿ™‚ hehe thanks again so much for reading!

  3. Mika, great article! Very helpful. I just gave birth 4 weeks ago and I still look 6months pregant, I was kinda worried that I won’t be able to get my flat tummy back. I guess I have to wait few more weeks and be more patient? I gained about 30lbs (was 120lbs before I get pregnant) and been eating a lot after I gave birth question for you, will those bands they give you for free in the the hospital(in US, not sure if they do it to in PH), looks like a typical girdle stretched material that has a velcro and not a corsets, do you think It will work the same? Or you suggest that I should just get the corset?

You can start now and continue wearing till you see a difference… if you don’t want to wear it out- you can wear it while you sleep!     1. Hi @Mel ๐Ÿ™‚ the clarins tonic oil i rub all around my tummy and butt area coz thats where stretchmarks are prone to appear.. and the firming gel i use on my thighs coz thats to help prevent cellulite ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Aaaw thank you so much @liz! Hehe just sharing really what has helped me over the years ๐Ÿ™‚ i wouldnt recommend a toner tho while pregnant unless you find an organic one? But for the moisturizer, i used the one of kiehls all through out my pregnancy ๐Ÿ™‚ and for sunscreen a good paraben free one like jason from healthy options is good – there are also several brands available there ๐Ÿ™‚

    Im currently 36 weeks preggy for my first child. I feel so big and heavy already ;( (my ob advise me bedrest). What diet did you do to achieve your pre pregnancy weight, well aside from marie france treatments hehe! I cant wait to go back to my pre pregnancy weight already. Thanks!

Oh dont worry i felt the same way… parang you feel like you’ll never go back ..but i think if you are willing and conscious about it.. kaya naman ๐Ÿ™‚ … i don’t diet though because im breastfeeding… so really everything i wrote here is what i did.. ๐Ÿ™‚ but if you were to “diet” i guess stay away from junk and salty food ๐Ÿ™‚

    I gave birth 8 weeks ago and I got stretch marks and its crazy disturbing when I checked on it. I was not able to do things like you did because of some seizure episodes happened to my daughter day after I gave birth so she needs to stay to NICU for weeks and I need to go there in the hospital everyday for breastfeeding. Now that I am back to work, some would say “Ang laki mo na, buntis ka pa din?” and I would just say, “Ok lang I have my pretty baby naman” pero no, after answering back I felt a little disturb and honestly offended. In my mind aside from the fact that yes I gained so much weight, I also have stretchmarks ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

    Can I still go back to my figure and lessen the stretchmarks if not totally disappear. whew! My problem now is that I am too busy working Momma, I work 8 hours in the office and teach at night (part time professor in a University).

    How did you manage your precious time, and looking sooo hot momma!!!


    1. Hello @divine! First of all congratulations on your bundle of joy- im so happy that she’s healthy and doing well now! Your story is quite inspiring! … i know hearing those discouraging words are painful- especially coz of the pressure nowadays to always look “good”- but dont let it bring you down. You are SUPER! you did everything you needed to do for your baby- and that is important.. but now its also time to be a little selfish and think about your happiness and confidence too! First things first, we might have stretchmarks here and there but turn it around and think of it as “battle scars” of mommyhood. Just so your mindset is changed.. and on a more positive note. One thing tho – stretchmarks can only be made lighter and not completely removed… so if we learn to accept it a little bit more/ Then we can slowly start doing things for “improvement”- laser treatments work great in lightening them- and if you start using firming and antistretchmark oils like clarins as ive mentioned it does improve quite a bit- but im talking long term ๐Ÿ™‚

    2. @divine these are just a few things to do… if you feel you dont have time to work out or consult with marie france coz of work and mommy responsibilities you can do things like wear the corset daily! Have a healthier diet :$ little things like that will eventually make a difference.
